When someone very close to Liz passed away in August 2023, she set herself the task of taking one photo a day. Most of these photos show the life cycles of nature. At the same time, she expressed the emotions and questions she had at that time through poetry. These photos and poems come together in this book to provide a moving and powerful exploration of one person's journey with grief.
The book is based on an exhibition held by Liz Jakimow with the same title, but includes photos and poems not able to be included in the original exhibition.
The book is available as a beautiful photo book for $42, or as a pdf for $9.99. Go to Blurb to see a preview and order your copy.
'A journey with grief: exploration through photography and poetry' will be held at Braidwood Regional Arts Group (BRAG) on 25 and 26 May.
There will be a book launch, talk and poetry recital at 1.30pm on Saturday 25 May.
‘A Journey with Grief: Exploring Loss Through Photography and Poetry’ showcases poetry taken in the three-month period following the loss of a loved one, accompanied by poetry written during the same period.
Photographer Liz Jakimow invites you on a journey through her personal experience of grief. Captured in the three months following her own loss, her photographs portray her emotional journey through the images that spoke to her during that time. Photography became both a refuge and a reflection of her inner turmoil. Liz's work also explored the cycle of life and death within nature and highlighted the beauty that could be found even in the darkest moments.
Alongside Liz Jakimow's photography, her heartfelt and emotive poetry will be on display. These poems serve as a window into the artist's soul, inviting visitors to explore their own feelings of loss and find solace in shared experiences.
This exhibition is based on a previous exhibition by the same name, held at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture.
